29th September 2013

There are lots of changes being brought into many aspects of life both in and out of school at the moment. One key change which will affect a lot of families comes from the 2013 Education Regulations which came into effect on September 1st. These state that “head teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances” The regulations are clear that family holidays cannot be authorised and do not class as exceptional circumstances. This means that we will be unable to sanction any family holiday requests this year. Unauthorised absences are liable to a significant fine from the Education Welfare Service. We are aware that this may create some difficulties and frustrations within our school community. This is a change which central Government have introduced and we would suggest that parents raise any concerns they have with the local elected Member of Parliament.
