Beach clean success
28th January 2017
Over 70 parents, students and staff from Pensans School took part in a beach clean at Marazion on Saturday 28th January. Organised by Parent Governor and Virtues Coordinator, Shona Pye, the aim of the day was to work work together as a community and do something positive for the place we live.
The event was advertised using posters that the children had designed themselves.
Shona Pye worked alongside SAS (Surfers Against Sewage) to ensure that the beach cleaners had gloves and bags. Penzance Tesco kindly provided bottles of water and fruit.
The beach clean day was a great success. Children eagerly moved mountains of seaweed to reveal beach debris underneath and the dunes were emptied of bits of litter. Parent, Jen Stokes commented: “It has been a great morning and has really got everyone thinking about where we live”.
A well-timed heavy shower brought the beach clean to an end. Everyone was invited back to the Godolphin Arms who provided complimentary refreshments.
Shona Pye said: “I am really pleased with the turn out and everyone has been showing great enthusiasm and cooperation. It is lovely to see Pensans Primary school work together to help keep their local beach clean and showing such amazing virutes”.
Headteacher, Angela Clay said: “It has been such a great morning and we look forward to organising more community events in the future. Today’s beach clean has truly ignited passion in the Pensans’ students here today and there was a great feeling of community spirit”.
