Every Great Journey Begins with Curiosity...

Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage at Pensans Primary. Here, we see every child as a natural explorer, thinker, and creator.

Across our 2-Year-Old Room and our joint Preschool and Reception Room, our days are shaped by big ideas, purposeful play, and shared stories. We hold high expectations for every child while nurturing them within a calm, caring, and supportive environment where they feel safe, valued, and confident to take risks in their learning.

Through rich continuous provision, from muddy outdoor adventures to quiet cosy corners, children are encouraged to explore, investigate, create, and make sense of the world around them. Our skilled practitioners work alongside children, carefully observing, interacting, and extending learning through meaningful conversations and responsive teaching. Using the ShREC approach (Share Attention, Respond, Expand and Converse), adults build language-rich interactions that deepen thinking, develop communication skills, and support each child to become a confident learner.

Ongoing formative assessment is at the heart of our practice. Through daily observations, interactions, and knowledge of each child, we identify strengths, celebrate achievements, and plan meaningful next steps that build on children's interests and developmental needs. This responsive approach ensures that every child is appropriately challenged and supported as they develop the foundations for future success in communication and language, personal development, literacy, mathematics, and understanding the world.

Our aim is to nurture curious, confident, and independent learners who develop a strong sense of belonging, wellbeing, and a lifelong love of learning.

We are immensely proud of our EYFS community and look forward to working in partnership with your family throughout these important early years.
